Kendrick Perkins is rehabbing after surgery on the torn MCL he suffered during the NBA Finals. He is expecting to return to action around mid-February.
The Breakdown
This news makes Perkins completely undraftable, as he'll miss more than 3 months of action. This shouldn't effect standard sized leagues, as Perkins was only borderline draftable when completely healthy. Even when Perkins is able to play, it will take him some time to get into game shape. I wouldn't expect him to make any noticeable fantasy contributions until the end of the season. Additionally, If the Celtics are playing well with Jermaine O'Neal or, potentially, Shaq in the starting line up, they may not see a need to make a change when Perkins returns.
This is good news for Jermaine O'Neal's fantasy prospects, as he'll be guaranteed significant playing time at least through February. If the rumors are true and Shaq is on his way to Boston, he could also end up being a good player to have in deeper leagues due to Jermaine O'Neal's injury history. Shaq, though, won't be getting the opportunity to start if Jermaine is healthy. Shaq has already been informed that he will have to take a bench role if he joins the Celtics, so he shouldn't threaten Jermaine for the starting center spot.
