Zydrunas Ilgauskas Following LeBron to Miami

Zydrunas Ilgauskas will sign a 2-year contract with the Miami Heat. Terms are not currently known, though it appears he will earn the league minimum due to Miami's cap situation.

The Breakdown
Considering how little Miami has to spend on free agents, the fact that they have picked up a legitimate starting center is amazing. Ilgauskas is up there in age, but he can still provide some decent scoring and rebounding numbers. I'd expect about 8 points, 6 boards, a block, and a 3 pointer every now and then. Nothing to get too excited about, but Big Z is certainly a guy you can pick up late in your draft if you still need a 2nd or 3rd center and you'll still be able to start him with confidence. Due to the lack of depth on the Heat, Ilgauskas will get his minutes and that makes him a safe pick just as long as you're not counting on him for big numbers.

The signing of Ilgauskas also ensures that Udonis Haslem will play a bench role. I still see him getting around 25 minutes a game and giving you the steady production I discussed here. I don't feel this signing affects his value at all. Like Big Z, Haslem is also a solid pick but more suited for slightly deeper leagues as he'll be the first big man off the bench. He'll be a really nice player to have on your squad once he gets center eligibility, which I'm sure he will fairly early in the season.
