The Spurs have signed 6'11 big man Tiago Splitter. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Breakdown
The Spurs add another talented big man to their roster. Splitter was the Spurs' 1st round pick back in 2007, but he's spent his young career in Europe where he's emerged as a dominant big man and one of the best young NBA prospects.
Splitter should immediately be a rotation player, possibly starting alongside Tim Duncan. Tiago is an impressive offensive player, boasting a variety of moves and an aggressive offensive nature. For his size, he's not much of a rebounder. He's also a below average free throw shooter, but because of his offensive abilities he'll give you a very high FG%. He's also very mobile and quick for a big man, which means he can run the floor effectively on the break.
My main concern with him is his lack of shot blocking for his size. He'll most likely give you more steals than blocks. I'm also concerned about his inability to rebound. Splitter appears to be more of a finesse big in the mold of many other European big men. Splitter may be worth a look late in drafts if you're looking for high percentage scorer. I don't feel he'll give you much else in other categories when he couldn't in the Spanish League.
